Tournament Teams & Summer Teams
Majors and Intermediates Leagues
Parents of Major and Intermediate League Players,
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the process for selecting the Rye Little League’s Tournament Teams and the Rye Little League’s Summer Teams.
As many of you know, following the end of our regular season and playoffs, we will field three Tournament Teams:
- the 12's Tournament Team – for 12 year olds in the Major League
- the 11's Tournament Team - for 11-year-olds in the Major League
- the 10’s Tournament Team - for 10-year-olds in the Major & Intermediate League
The Rye 12's Tournament Team participates in the annual Little League World Series Tournament, which culminates in Williamsport, Pennsylvania in late August. The 12's Tournament Team is a “travel team” and the level of competition is quite high. As a result, the level of commitment required of players is also very high, including many practices (last year’s team practiced six to seven times a week on weekday evenings and weekends and played games which lasted thru July in the double elimination tournament). The amount of time required depends upon how far in the tournament the team progresses; if the team keeps winning, it could theoretically play until August 20th in the final game.
The Rye 10 and 11 Tournament Teams participate in parallel tournaments, which have similar timing, practice structure, competitiveness and time commitment requirements, and culminate in a State Championship.
Please understand availability of the player for Tournament games and practices is highly significant when determining the team. Conflicts may disqualify a player from a Tournament Team i.e. Summer camp, backpacking in Europe, French lessons at Coeur de France, Lacrosse or Soccer camps, etc... He/she will not be eligible for the Tournament Teams.
The 12 players on each Tournament Team will be selected by the Rye Little League Board of Directors based on:
1) Availability - If a child is NOT available to play he/she will NOT be selected to the Tournament Team - please DO NOT sign up if you know your child will be away.
2) Manager and Coach voting
3) Player voting
4) Umpires and board member voting
As for the Intermediate League – due to the fact there are 10 year old players in the Majors and Intermediate Leagues it makes the 10’s Tournament Team voting less well-informed than the Majors voting. As a result, the Board uses more discretion in choosing the 10’s Tournament Team and relies on a combination of voting results and input from coaches and managers.
All Tournament Teams will be announced on or after June 1st. A fee will be collected from the selected players after the rosters are announced.
Summer Travel Teams:
In addition and completely separate from the Tournament Teams; Rye Little League will field teams in the Westchester Baseball Association A and B divisions. We will have as many teams as necessary depending on interest from players and expect to have teams in the 11u and 10u divisions. A team for the 12u’s will be dependent upon participation interest. Unlike Rye Little League’s Spring Season, the Summer WBA is highly completive and we expect a commitment from both the players and parents. We will play a minimum of 20 games on weeknights and weekends, plus practice and hopefully a tournament or two.
If necessary,we will host tryouts (date TBA) for anyone interested and players will be selected according to age and ability by independent evaluators. The fee for the summer league is $250 per player
If your son or daughter has interest and would like to play summer travel baseball - please register at www.RyeLittleLeague.com.
