Eligibility Rules 2010
The Rye Little League invites children born between May 1, 1997 and April 30, 2002 to play in the Minor League, Intermediate League or Major League during the 2010 Season. Please carefully read this registration form. Parents or guardians can register their child on line.
Registration begins the December before the current year. This allows enough time to recruit coaches, order uniforms and schedule fields.
The fee for the Spring Season is $150 for the first player in a family and $115 each for any additional players. This amount will include the purchase of a uniform (shirt, pants and hat), which you will keep. Confidential scholarships are available—please email President Myles Lavelle (
). Once registration closes, applications registered after this date will require a late fee of $75 and will be subject to a waiting list and openings may not occur.
ON LINE REGISTRATION:
If you would like your child's name to appear correctly on rosters, please type it correctly - James O'Brien NOT james obrien. Please do not use ALL CAP or all lower case letters.
Participants must have been born between May 1, 1997 and April 30, 2002.
Even if you played last year you must register to play in 2010.
ELIGIBILITY:
1) You must reside within the city limits of the City of Rye, not just within zip code 10580. Attendance in a Rye school does not qualify participation.
2) You must be at least 8 years old on April 30, 2010. For those born after April 30, 2002, there will be a Baseball Program run by Rye Recreation with a sign-up in March. Little League International sets the dates for Little League participation. You must have been born after April 30, 1997.
3) A Birth Certificate or passport must be on file before a player is eligible. If this is your first year in Rye Little League, you must send a photocopy of a Legal Birth Certificate or a Passport to: Matt Anderson 149 Theall Road Rye, NY 10580 or an emailed copy to
. A Birth Certificate or passport must be on file before a player is eligible.
4) If a player does not attend at least 50 percent of his or her games, Rye Little League can prohibit the player from participation the following year.
SCHEDULE:
1) Practices will begin in mid-March and the regular season will conclude by the end of June. Generally teams play one weekday evening game and one Saturday game each week, although Major League teams may play three games in certain weeks. Major and Intermediate rain outs will be played on Sundays.
2) Rye will field a tournament team in each of the Major League and Intermediate League levels after the local season ends. These teams will be selected by the Board of Rye Little League based upon player and coach voting and will compete during July and August in their respective Little League World Series Tournaments. Only 11-year-old players in the Major League will be eligible for the 11-year-old Tournament team.
TRYOUTS:
All eligible players who register on time will play Little League baseball in one of the three leagues (i.e., there are no cuts).
A player’s age on April 30, 2010 is his or her Little League age for all seasons this year (spring, summer and fall). Players may not necessarily be playing on the same team as last year.
- All 8- and 9-year-olds will play in the Minor League.
- All 10-year-olds will play in the Intermediate League.
- Players who are 11 years old will play in the Intermediate League unless they attend a 20-minute tryout to play in the Major League, which will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2010 in the Rye High School gym and are later selected by a Major League Team. This year, depending upon registrations, more than half of the 11-year-olds will play in the Intermediate League while some will play in the Major League. While 11-year-old players are sometimes initially disappointed if they don’t make a Major League team, most find that the Intermediate League experience is very rewarding with more playing time than they would have in the Major League and a chance to play positions they would not be able to play in the Major League. During the week prior to February 6, players will be notified of their time to tryout. Time conflicts will try to be accommodated, but all 11-year-olds must tryout to play in the Major League.
- All 12-year-olds play in the Major League. The number of 12-year-old players who register this year will determine how many teams play in the Major League. Regardless of the number of teams, 12-year-old players who played in the Major League last year do not need to attend a tryout. All players who will be 12-year-olds who played in the Intermediate League last year must attend a 20-minute tryout to be drafted onto a Major League team. This tryout will be held on Saturday, February 6 in the Rye High School gym. During the week prior to February 6, 2010 players will be notified of their time to tryout.
Refunds: If a refund is requested before teams are assigned a check will be issued from RLL in the amount of registration minus $10 convenience charge. (Processing with a Purpose will not issue refunds.) After teams are assigned, requests for refunds will need the Boards consideration of the situation. (Again Processing with a Purpose will not issue refunds.)
